Photographing Shuls was nothing new to Andrew and Paul Laszlo. In Hungary, they were the official photographers for the Federation of Jewish Communities. They shot thousands of images of Hungarian Jewish life and Institutions

In early 1999 they officially launched their Shul Project.
The project is to photograph all the Shuls in Toronto and neighbouring cities (though they shot Shul pictures before this date, too).

In the coming months when they have the time and resources,
they would like to extend this project in Ontario and other Provinces as well. They are planning to publish a book, CD-ROM and an interactive web-site.

So far they've photographed more than 20 Shuls in the Greater Toronto Area, including, North York and Thornhill. At the bottom of this page you can find a listing of these Shuls.

The brothers would like to thank all of the Shuls listed below
for their co-operation in giving them access to their sites.

The brothers are using all kind of media to preserve these Shuls, including:

Photographing a Shul is a very time consuming and costly endeavour.
